What happens to your data when you connect an app to Muse

Connecting an app gives Muse access to what’s in it. Here’s what Meta says about where that data and your logins are kept, what it does and doesn’t share, and how to take access back.

Where your connected data is kept

Meta says Muse runs on Muse Secure VM, its own dedicated computer in the cloud, kept apart so no one else’s agent can reach it. That’s where Muse lives, and where the data and logins for every service you connect are stored.

Your passwords and cards

Meta says Muse has no visibility into your passwords or payment methods. Any login you share goes into secure storage, so Muse can use it without seeing it, and that includes passwords you type into its browser yourself.

When Muse pays with Link by Stripe, Meta says Link creates a one-time-use card so your real card details stay hidden.

What checks Muse’s actions

Meta says a separate agent, called the Sentinel, runs on the same machine but is kept apart from Muse at the system level. Nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless the Sentinel approves it, and it asks you when your permission is needed.

Muse also checks with you before sensitive actions, like sending an email or making a purchase, and shows a full record of everything it has done and plans to do.

Ads and AI training

  • Meta says Muse doesn’t share your conversations or the data in your VM with Meta’s ad systems.
  • You can opt out of your interactions being used to train Meta’s AI models.
  • Muse remembers things you tell it, and you can tell it to “forget” specific things it has learned.
  • For Google Docs, Gmail and other Google apps, Meta’s help center says information from Google Workspace APIs is handled under Google’s User Data Policy, including its Limited Use rules.

Taking access back

Meta says you choose which apps Muse connects to and exactly how much access each one gets. For email, you choose whether Muse only reads your mail or can also send it. You can change access or disconnect a service whenever you want. How permissions work covers the options.

What Meta says is coming

In its launch post in September 2026, Meta said it will introduce Muse Confidential VM later this year. The whole VM, including your data and conversations, would be encrypted with a key only you hold, so not even Meta could access it.
